MTV THE SUPER DRY LIVE was a short series of annual mutli-artist concert shows held each May between 2002 and 2005, sponsored by MTV Japan and Asahi Beer. Ayu was one of the featured artists appearing in the 2004 installment.

Admission was free to 10,000 people, chosen via lottery through Asahi Beer (if applicant was over 20 years of age) and MTV (if applicant was under 20). Some of the winners were given "platinum" tickets which included admission to the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2004, in which Ayu also participated, the following day.

The theme of the concert series was "dream concert" and applicants trying to get tickets would submit their "dreams" for an ideal show among their requests; according to the official show report at superdry-mtv.com, it was a fan request to "see many of Ayu's costumes at once!" and this staging was the result of that:

  • The "ourselves" costume is a color-changed version of the one used for the same song during ARENA TOUR 2003-2004 A, and would later be used again for BEST of COUNTDOWN LIVE 2006-2007 A.
  • "SURREAL~evolution~SURREAL" would use a black outfit similar to what Ayu would wear later in the promotion video for "GAME," including a hat similar to what she wore in ARENA TOUR 03-04 during the same medley.
  • For "Moments," Ayu used a new traditional red & gold kimono style costume similar to what she'd later wear for her performance of the same song at the 55th Kouhaku Utagassen.
  • For "Greatful days" and "UNITE!", Ayu wore a bare-midriff white outfit with black flames & matching cowboy hat, originally worn during "Boys & Girls" and "UNITE!" during ARENA TOUR 03-04.
